The Perchmark team meeting with a client

Catherine Stoddard

Principal & Founder • CPA/ABV, CVA, CFE, MAFF

Not many expert witnesses moonlight as improv comedians. Catherine Stoddard did it for eight years, making her just as comfortable under the lights of a comedy club as under oath in a courtroom. Different audience. Same requirement: listen carefully, think clearly, trust the facts, and know where the story goes next.

Catherine grew up in Columbia, went to Furman University, and spent the next 45 years becoming one of the most trusted forensic accounting and valuation experts in the Carolinas. Her work has taken her across South Carolina and into North Carolina, covering the kinds of complex financial disputes that don't get resolved without someone who really knows what they're looking at.

After nearly two decades building and running her own practice, Catherine joined a larger forensic and valuation practice. Eventually, she rose to Director at one of the country's top 10 accounting firms. She spent 14 years there before doing what a lot of people in her position only dream about: she left, rebuilt her practice on her own terms, and brought Carleigh Hoy on as her partner. What started as a reignited solo practice has now grown into Perchmark, with two offices anchoring opposite ends of South Carolina and a longstanding presence in North Carolina.

Over 35 years, she has testified as an expert witness in family courts, circuit courts, superior courts, federal district court, and arbitrations across both states. She has been appointed as a joint expert, served as a mediator, and worked with clients ranging from individuals navigating divorce to public companies in the middle of complex financial disputes, across diverse industries from healthcare and real estate to manufacturing, technology, and construction.

Outside the office, she is a proud grandmother who loves exploring the outdoors with open water swimming, hiking, and paddling. She plays an active role in the Greenville community.

“My job is to find what the numbers actually say and make sure that answer holds up when it’s tested in court. That’s it. That’s the whole thing.”

Carleigh Hoy

Director • CPA

Carleigh Hoy grew up in Maryland, moved to Charleston for college, and never left. It's hard to blame her. She studied Greek and Latin at the College of Charleston, earned a Master of Accountancy from the same institution, and built a career that lets her spend her days doing what she loves: untangling complex financial puzzles while still having time to explore Charleston's restaurant scene, spend time with friends, and take full advantage of the coastal lifestyle.

The Greek and Latin part surprises people. It shouldn't. Forensic accounting demands exactly what a Classics degree builds: the patience to work through a complicated text, the precision to reconstruct what actually happened, and the intellectual curiosity to keep pulling at threads until the full picture comes into focus.

She spent the first four and a half years of her career in tax consulting for high-net-worth individuals before moving into forensic accounting and valuation work. It was there that she crossed paths with Catherine, working together within the forensic accounting practice of a nationally recognized top 10 accounting firm. They never lost touch, and when the timing finally aligned, they built Perchmark together.

Carleigh works with attorneys, business owners, and other professionals throughout the litigation process, focusing primarily on family law matters and financially complex disputes. She takes pride in being responsive, thoughtful, and genuinely invested in the people she works with — not just the cases.

“I got into this because I love the puzzle of it. Complex disputes, tangled finances, high stakes. That's exactly where I want to be.”

Taylor Fennell

Administrative Assistant

A criminology degree might not be the most obvious path to forensic accounting, but they’re built on the same foundation: following the facts. Criminology teaches you to organize information, pay attention to details, and build a complete picture from scattered pieces of evidence. It turns out those same instincts are invaluable in a forensic accounting practice.

Taylor grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and earned her bachelor's degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Slippery Rock University before beginning her legal career. She started out as a Legal Administrative Assistant at one of Boston's leading insurance defense firms, then returned to Pennsylvania as a Legal Assistant at a boutique intellectual property law firm in Pittsburgh. Along the way, she developed a reputation for staying organized, anticipating what others need, and keeping even the busiest cases moving forward.

Today, Taylor is the person who keeps the firm moving. She researches issues, prepares exhibits, processes incoming documents, manages filings, and somehow always seems to know what’s needed before anyone asks. Her attention to detail and positive attitude help ensure the team can focus on serving Perchmark’s clients, knowing everything else is under control.

Away from the office, Taylor and her husband enjoy exploring Greenville’s ever-growing food scene with their dog never too far behind. She’s also an avid snowboarder, pianist, and believes an active lifestyle is the best way to recharge.

“I’ve always believed the details tell the story. I enjoy making sure nothing gets overlooked so the rest of the team can focus on the bigger picture.”
